Let the public sector lead the way
Paul Dawson, group technical manager at LHC, looks at the runaway demand for the latest Public Sector Decarbonisation Fund grants and explains why public-sector led programmes to transform the energy performance of our buildings are the quickest route on the road to net zero.
It’s boom time for MMC – time to get involved
You will have read a lot about modern methods of construction (MMC). You may have even investigated where you can incorporate it into your plans. But if you haven’t introduced it to any of your projects yet, now’s the time, thanks to a significant development in government policy.

What is a Dynamic Purchasing System?
What is a DPS (Dynamic Purchasing System), how does it differ from a traditional framework, and how it can be used to keep work local?

5 things to help steer you on your path to net zero
Launched at the end of last year, the eighth edition of the Energy Efficiency Framework (N8) couldn’t be more timely. As we get closer to COP26 and the Government makes more concerted noises than ever over decarbonisation, social housing providers have a huge role to play.
This latest framework has the benefit of 30 years’ practical experience, and LHC and its experts have learnt a lot in that time. So what tips can we give you in the face of the net zero challenge? What are the best new technologies that should now be part of the social landlord’s arsenal? And how can using CPC as a procurement partner and its N8 framework make the difference to ensure success?
Happy Earth Day 2021
The theme for Earth Day 2021 is 'Restore Our Earth', which focuses on natural processes, emerging green technologies, and innovative thinking that can restore the world's ecosystems. On the surface this may seem far removed from the world of public sector procurement, but at CPC we believe that the role of procurement is increasingly important in reaching net zero targets. Reaching these targets will have to utilise green technologies and will require innovative thinking.

Helping a council successfully use Modern Methods of Construction to accelerate its house-building programme
CPC worked with Sheffield City Council to help them understand the process of modular construction, appointing specialists M-AR to a new housing project.
Fighting fuel poverty
The Local Authority Delivery Scheme, part of the Government’s Green Homes Grant initiative, is driving energy efficiency upgrades for thousands of low-income, low-EPC homes across the country, providing local authorities with up to £500m to help bring residents out of fuel poverty, while moving the country towards its net zero target.
Quality, capacity, speed of delivery and value for money are all considerations for local authorities that have been awarded funding under the scheme, therefore it’s vital that they get procurement right first time. For those that do not already have contractors in place, a framework agreement and a Direct Award process can ensure all of these are met.
Energy efficiency measures procurement guide launched
A new guide has been launched for local authorities, housing associations and other registered providers that are looking to procure energy efficiency works.
As the Government and wider housing sector seek to ramp up their retrofit efforts to achieve net zero stock by at least 2050, it’s more important than ever for social landlords to ensure they have routes to procure compliant and quality suppliers.
